These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Rooted Family
("Rooted Family," "we," "us," operated by
J Saves the Day LLC) governing your
access to and use of the Rooted Family Chores mobile app, the Rooted Family parent web
dashboard, and myrootedfamily.com (together, the "Service").
By creating an account, accepting an invitation to join a household, or otherwise using
the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our
Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by
reference. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility and who these Terms apply to
You must be at least 18 years old, and legally able to enter into a contract, to
create an Account Holder account or agree to these Terms. By creating an account, you
represent that you meet these requirements and that you are the parent, legal
guardian, or otherwise have authorization to add any children to a household you
create.
Rooted Family Chores is designed to be used by children only through a child profile
created and managed by an Account Holder — a child cannot create their own independent
account or agree to these Terms on their own behalf. See
Section 3 below.
2. Accounts and households
A household is created and owned by the Account Holder who sets it up (the "Owner").
The Owner may invite other adults as Parents, Adults, or Viewers, each with different
permissions, and may add child profiles. You are responsible for:
- The accuracy of the information you provide.
-
Maintaining the confidentiality of your password and any child PINs you set, and for
all activity that occurs under your account or within your household.
-
Notifying us promptly at
support@myrootedfamily.com if you
believe your account or a household has been accessed without authorization.
Only the Owner role has certain irreversible controls (such as removing the
household). Some actions taken by other invited adults, like awarding points or
approving chores, are visible to the whole household and cannot be made private from
other adult members.
3. Children using the Service
Every child profile is created by, and remains under the control of, the household's
Account Holder(s). Parents are always in control: they decide household membership,
permissions, what a child's profile contains, whether AI-assisted features are
enabled, and when to delete a child's data. Children do not control household-wide
settings.
The Service is not designed to allow a child to communicate with strangers, browse the
open internet, or make purchases directly. Any product or retailer information a child
sees has been curated or approved by their household's Account Holder. See our
Children's Privacy section for more
detail on how we handle information related to children.
4. Subscriptions and billing
Rooted Family Chores may be offered with a free tier and one or more optional paid
subscription tiers that unlock additional features. Where a paid subscription is
offered, the following general terms apply, regardless of which payment method or
platform you use:
-
Billing: subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis
(for example, monthly or annually) through the platform you subscribed on — the
Apple App Store, Google Play, or a third-party payment processor on the web.
-
Auto-renewal: unless you cancel before the end of the current
billing period, your subscription will automatically renew, and you authorize us (or
the applicable platform) to charge your chosen payment method for the renewal.
-
Cancellation: you can cancel at any time through your platform
account settings (App Store, Google Play, or your web account settings).
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we do not
provide prorated refunds for the remainder of a billing period unless required by
law or the applicable platform's policy.
-
Refunds: refund requests for purchases made through the App Store
or Google Play are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies, not by us.
For purchases made directly through our website, contact us at
support@myrootedfamily.com.
-
Price changes: we may change subscription pricing from time to
time. If we do, we'll provide advance notice, and any change will apply starting
with your next billing cycle after the notice period.
-
Free trials: if a free trial is offered, your subscription will
automatically convert to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you
cancel before it ends.
5. Points, XP, and rewards
Points and XP earned within the Service are an internal, household-scoped tracking
mechanism for completed chores and are not currency. Points and XP:
-
Have no cash value and cannot be sold, transferred, exchanged, or redeemed for
money.
-
Can only be redeemed for rewards configured within that household, at the values the
Account Holders set.
-
May be adjusted or corrected by us if we identify an error, a bug, or misuse
affecting a household's balance.
-
Are forfeited if a household or child profile is deleted, or if an account is
terminated for violating these Terms.
6. Wishlist, product links, and purchases
Rooted Family is not a retailer and does not sell, ship, or process payment for any
product shown in the Service.
Where the Service displays product information from a supported third-party retailer
(for example Amazon, Target, Walmart, or LEGO), that information is provided for
convenience only, based on links or details an Account Holder chose to add.
-
We do not guarantee the accuracy, availability, or current price of any third-party
product shown in the app.
-
Any purchase happens entirely off-platform, directly between the Account Holder and
the third-party retailer, subject to that retailer's own terms, pricing, and
policies.
-
Rooted Family is not a party to, and has no responsibility for, any transaction
between you and a third-party retailer.
-
Marking a redemption as "purchased" within the app is a household record-keeping
action only — it does not place, confirm, or process an order with any retailer.
7. Your content
You retain ownership of the content your household creates within the Service — chore
descriptions, wishlist notes, household names, and similar content ("User Content").
By submitting User Content, you grant Rooted Family a limited, non-exclusive license
to host, store, display, and process that content solely to operate and improve the
Service. You represent that you have the right to submit any User Content you provide,
and that it does not violate any law or third party's rights.
You agree not to submit User Content that is illegal, harmful, sexually explicit,
discriminatory, or that impersonates another person.
8. AI-generated content
Optional "adventure mode" quest text is generated automatically using AI, based on a
chore's title and category, with a non-AI template used as a fallback. AI-generated
text may occasionally be inaccurate, repetitive, or not perfectly suited to your
household, and an Account Holder should review generated content before relying on it.
AI features can be turned off at the household or child level at any time.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
-
Access or attempt to access another household's data, or circumvent household
isolation or security controls.
-
Use the Service to harm, exploit, endanger, or collect information about a child
beyond what the Service is designed for.
-
Reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, or attempt to extract the Service's source code
or underlying data, except as permitted by law.
-
Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that could disable,
overburden, or impair it.
- Upload malicious code or attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems.
- Misrepresent your identity or your authority to create or manage a household.
10. Our intellectual property
The Service, including its design, software, illustrations, avatars, trademarks
(including "Rooted Family" and associated logos), and content we create, is owned by
Rooted Family and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant
you any right to use our branding except as necessary to use the Service as intended.
11. Third-party services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including Google Firebase, Resend, Google
and Apple sign-in, AI content providers, and Cloudflare, as described in our
Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for
the availability, content, or practices of third-party services, including any
retailer whose product information appears in the Service.
12. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND,
WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE
UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT PRODUCT INFORMATION FROM THIRD-PARTY
RETAILERS WILL BE ACCURATE OR CURRENT.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ROOTED FAMILY AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND
SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL,
CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, REVENUE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING
FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE
TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US, IF ANY, IN THE 12 MONTHS
BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THESE LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF
THEM MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Rooted Family from any claims, damages,
liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use
of the Service, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
15. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your household at any time from Household
Settings, or by contacting us at
support@myrootedfamily.com. We may
suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms, create
risk or legal exposure for us, or if required by law. Upon termination, your right to
use the Service ends, and we will handle your data as described in our
Privacy Policy.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of
[State — to be added], without regard to
conflict-of-law principles. Before filing a formal claim, you agree to first contact
us at support@myrootedfamily.com so we
can try to resolve the issue informally. Any dispute that cannot be resolved
informally will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal
courts located in [State/County — to be added].
17. App Store and Google Play terms
If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, the following
additional terms apply:
-
These Terms are between you and Rooted Family only, not with Apple Inc. or Google
LLC, which are not responsible for the Service or its content.
-
Apple and Google have no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the
Service.
-
In the event of any failure of the Service to conform to any applicable warranty,
you may notify Apple or Google, and they may refund the purchase price (if
applicable); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple and Google have no other
warranty obligation for the Service.
-
Apple and Google are not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the
Service or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the
Service fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims arising
under consumer protection or similar laws.
-
Apple and Google are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your
acceptance, will have the right to enforce these Terms against you.
-
You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government
embargo, and that you are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or
restricted parties.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will
notify you through the app, by email, or by updating the effective date at the top of
this page. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the
updated Terms.
