Child Safety

Effective date: July 24, 2026  ·  Applies to Rooted Family Chores (iOS, Android, and web)

The short version: Rooted Family Chores is parent-managed by design. Children do not create public accounts, do not need email addresses, cannot message strangers, cannot make purchases, and do not see advertising. Parents control each child profile, household membership, rewards, wishlists, and deletion.

This Child Safety page explains the product choices Rooted Family uses to keep child participation bounded, private, and under adult supervision. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

1. Parent-managed by default

Rooted Family Chores is built around households managed by adults. A parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult creates the household, invites other adults, adds child profiles, assigns chores, configures rewards, reviews wishlists, and controls account or household deletion.

Children use Rooted Family only through a profile created inside that household. They do not agree to legal terms themselves, manage billing, invite household members, or control household-wide privacy settings.

2. How child profiles work

A child profile is not a public profile. It is a household record created by an adult and visible only to authorized members of that household.

  • Children do not need their own email address, phone number, or social login.
  • Parents can use a nickname instead of a child's full legal name.
  • Profile images use preset avatars; Rooted does not support child photo uploads.
  • Optional child PINs are stored as irreversible hashes; Rooted cannot view them.
  • Child-device mode is scoped to the selected household and child profile.

3. No public social features

Rooted Family Chores is not a social network. The app does not include public posting, public profiles, follower lists, open discovery, direct messaging with strangers, group chat, comments, or user-generated public feeds.

Children can interact only with chores, rewards, goals, and wishlists created or approved inside their own household.

4. Data minimization for children

We collect only what is needed to make the household experience work. We do not ask a child for contact details, precise location, payment information, government IDs, or retailer account credentials.

Child-related data may include a nickname, preset avatar, optional birth year, optional PIN hash, chore activity, points/XP, goals, rewards, wishlist requests, and parent approval decisions. More detail is available in the Children's Privacy section of our Privacy Policy.

5. Wishlists, rewards, and purchases

Children cannot buy products through Rooted Family. Wishlist requests and reward redemptions are household requests that an adult must review.

  • Purchases happen outside Rooted Family, directly between an adult and a retailer.
  • Rooted does not process retailer checkout or store retailer payment details.
  • Parents can approve, reject, purchase, or fulfill rewards and wishlist items.
  • Retailer imports are snapshots for parent review, not live child shopping access.

6. Adventure mode and AI-assisted text

Rooted Family may use AI-assisted generation to turn parent-created chores into playful adventure-mode quest text. This feature is bounded to chores and does not create open-ended chat with a child.

  • Generated quest text is based on chore context, not a child's private profile.
  • Parents can edit generated text or turn adventure mode off for a child.
  • A non-AI template fallback is available when generation is unavailable.
  • Household data is not used to train public AI models without explicit consent.

7. Advertising and tracking

Rooted Family's business model is subscriptions, not advertising. We do not show third-party ads to children, do not sell child data, and do not build behavioral advertising profiles from household or child activity.

8. Parent controls

Parents and authorized adult account holders can:

  • Create, edit, and delete child profiles.
  • Choose who belongs to a household and what adult role each person has.
  • Set or change child PINs and parent PINs.
  • Approve or reject chores, rewards, redemptions, and wishlist requests.
  • Turn weekly summaries and other household settings on or off.
  • Delete their adult account or request help deleting household data.

For deletion details, see Delete My Data.

9. Report a safety concern

If you believe a child profile was created without authorization, a household member should not have access, or any child-related information needs to be reviewed, corrected, or deleted, contact us at support@myrootedfamily.com.

Please do not send child PINs, passwords, payment card details, or retailer account credentials in support messages.
